THE CONNECTION!

-------A Monthly Newsletter for ArtistsConnect in Edmonds, Washington------

July 2007, Vol. 2, Issue 9

Sorry folks...with the limited time I've had lately and the limited funds I received last month, I've decided not to do a printed newsletter for July. But don't worry! I'll be back next month! complete with a new Featured Artist! For now, I've included the minutes and some announcements.

--Amy Peacock

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE MEETING FOR SEPTEMBER IS SEPTEMBER 29th!

July Meeting Minutes

A big thank you to Paula Perez for taking the minutes this month!

Cheryl Waale opened the meeting and asked us to support Amy Peacock with our donations for the newsletter. We welcomed new members: Susan, who works in all kinds of media and fabric and has a background in fashion and textile design; Barbara, who works in fiber; Jessie, who is taking lessons with Tracy Fraker; Fran, who works in textiles; Cynthia who works in textiles; a photographer (whose name I have missed); and Dorothy, a clothing designer.

We got a lot of feedback about ArtSplash on the comment sheets, but there was not time to discuss it all in the meeting. We heard reports from the show chairs, as follows. Dana had good feedback about the sandwich boards, many people came to the show after seeing them. Whitney gave a "brief report" about the success of the set-up crew, including design, using the fabric boards, the floral arrangements and decorations and the traffic flow. He asked for a volunteer to take his place chairing set-up for the next show. Amy reported on the miniature auction. She will run it again for the November show. Most of the auction pieces were sold and were all picked up by the winners. She noted that there was a spike in activity on the ArtSplash website recently, which she saw as a response to links from members’ blogs and websites. She encouraged all AC members to link to the show websites in the future. Helen reported on the success of the greeters and reported that the salmon was won and picked up. Ann Wood did the accounting for the show and sent out payments to the artists by Tuesday after the show. The sales desk did fantastically and was only $1 off on the money. The sales book and receipts are available for the artists to get the names of their buyers. Sally Abbey said that the sales staff was a great group and that the corner sales desk set up went very well. The total sales for the Art Splash show was $9251 over 4 days, which is $2300 per day. The last show averaged only $800 per day, over 9 days. Bill Ray said that most pieces sold were $40 or less, with 2/3 of items sold being under $100, and ½ of items sold under $75. Whitney Potter was both the high seller of the show and the People’s Choice winner. The surveys showed that 78% of visitors heard about the show from friends. 251 addresses were collected. Kathy Rinaldi and Lynn Scott did a spectacular job on refreshments. Comments were heard about the show having more and better food than ever before. Jeanine Langerud did the flowers for the show and maintained them over the 4 days.

Kathy Rinaldi mentioned that two of the ArtWorks walls are available for artists to display their art, and to contact Ann Woods.

Please note the August meeting will be changed from the usual date to Aug. 18th. The program will be a critique and any artists interested in participating should contact Tonnie Wolfe by the Wednesday before the meeting. Also note the September meeting will be moved to Sept. 29th, due to the Edmonds Studio Tour on the fourth Saturday.

Barb Childs spoke about the Puget Sound Gift show at the Frances Anderson Center. Cost is $25 per table for display.

After the break, AC’s own creativity coach, Cheryl Waale, presented a program on "Working from the Inside Out."
